Orange Plant |
From
Linda, Northumberland |
 |
Hello,
I hope someone can help me with
this question.
Just before Christmas I bought
a Calamondin Orange plant. When I bought it,
it was about a foot and a half high, really bushy and absolutley
covered in
leaves and oranges (about 40 fruit in total). However the green
leaves and
unripened fruit are now falling off at an alarming rate (there's
only about
2 oranges left). It doesn't look like it dying as the leaves aren't
brown
and it did flower about 3 weeks ago.
It's kept inside in the sunniest
room in the house, it's been re-poted in to
a much bigger pot and it gets watered regularly.
I don't know what else to do with
it - at this rate all that will be left
week is a bare tree!
Hope
someone can help.

I am in 6th grade and I am doing a science fair project on growing
Sweet Pea Perennials. I am comparing Schultz Expert granules to
Miracle Grow liquid. Do you or any of the gardeners know which
one works better, or have a preference?

Yucca |
From
Rowen, London |
 |
My yucca plant is dying. Help........ The "bark" is
coming away from the stem. There is a black slimey residue that
is next to the dead bark where it has come away.
There are three stems. The tall one has a very small growth, the
medium size one has lost all its leaves and has a black residue
on the leaves. The smallest stem is growing the best.
I put compost on it end of summer 2003 and watered once a week.
I now water it once every two weeks
What can I do??

Removing Decking |
From
Gardeners Club Member, UK |
 |
Have just moved into a new home and do not like the decking in
the corner of the garden. What steps should I take to realise
a 'flowering corner' and has pesticide been used to eliminate
weeds? Would I need top soil? Thanks.

Cats |
From
Coopermouse, UK |
 |
Cats, i have recently moved to a new house where the back garden
was all gravel, not suitable for my little dog to pop out to spend
a penny on in the middle of the night, so i went to great expense
of having a garden make over with a lawn and borders much to all
the local cats delight, they all use it as a toilet. Is there
anything i can do to repel the cats but make my dog feel at home
- help me please!

Yucca |
From
Shirley, The Shetlands |
 |
We have an indoor Yucca which has a short main trunk branching
into three long ones. Over the years these trunks have lost their
bottom leaves and the plant is therefore quite bare at the bottom.
Can you tell me how to cut the plant down to produce side shoots,
how far down I can cut it, and when I should perform the ‘surgery’?
Also, is the loosing of leaves just due to old age or poor care?

Yucca |
From
Claudia, UK |
 |
I am in desperate need of some help with my Yucca. I bought it
a couple of years ago, it is the type with a stem/trunk. However,
it seems to be wilting before my eyes. Some of the leaves have
dried up and fallen off, whereas the others have sagged and are
turning yellow. I don't tend to over water it and am at a loss.
Would it fare better if it was planted in the garden? I have changed
it's position to a cooler lighter room, but to no avail. Please
can you help?

Evergreen Tree |
From
Megan, UK |
 |
I am trying to find an evergreen tree which will reach 13ft to
15ft fairly quickly and not get much bigger.
A tree which will be vase-shaped.
I thought I would go for a Luma apiculata but I am not sure because
I have heard that it either grows less than 6ft in ten years or
that it grows to well over 20ft! Help!
The
garden soil is quite chalky and I'm in the South East

Yucca |
From
Jo, UK |
 |
I bought a yukka about six months ago. The yukka has three branches
- one about 3 feet tall, another 2 feet tall and a small one about
8 inches tall. All three branches were sprouting an adundance
of healthy leaves and all seemed to be well with it up until about
4 weeks ago.
All the leaves on the lower branch have flopped lifelessly downwards
and are now turning brown. The branch itself feels very loose
in the pot. Also some leaves on the upper two branches are turning
brown.
We have been watering the plant sparing since we bought it - possibly
about once a fortnight, although over the last month we have begun
to water more frequently. We've noticed that it is currently sitting
in a saucer of water which has drained through the pot. Also the
plant was sitting in a dim corner of the lounge. We have now moved
it to a much lighter spot.
We have been told that the pot might be too small for the plant.
Could this be why it is suffering? If so when would be a sensible
time to repot it? Any suggestions on how we can save our plant
would be appreciated.

Mandarin Tree |
From
Alan, Melbourne |
 |
Not
having any sort of green thumb, I need pruning a Mandarin tree.
Being in Melbourne we do not get freezes but it lost all of it's
leaves and then almost all of the branches have turned black.
We heard it might be constant bird attack so we have netted it.
It is now starting to flourish new growth. How do I prune it?
All, Some, None? Thankyou

Please

Sweet its a very old variety and you are my last hope.My dentist

a small dent in some mans car bonnet and he demanded that the

when its green but as it mellows it turns a yellow shade and is
soft, sweet and kind of powdery.I do hope you will be able to give
me some information. Thank you. June.

Bonsai |
From
Dudley, London |
 |
I have bought two bonsai trees within
the last 12 months.
My
interest has grown considerably, and I have been trying to buy
some seeds and starter kits, but without any luck.
Do
you know of any reputable businesses in England I can obtain seeds
and starter kits?
Kind

Duds.
|
|
From Clare, Gardeners Club Secretary
I would recommend that you visit www.nickys-nursery.co.uk
or www.bonsaiseeds.co.uk
, both of whom stock an excellent selection of seeds. For a good
starter kit, I would visit http://www.bonsaitrees-fromseed.co.uk/
I
have also recently discovered a very useful forum, Bonsai Help
which I think you may find useful: http://www.bonsaihelp.com/forum/
In
the New Year we will be adding a bonsai section to the site -
so look out for that; any contributions from Gardeners Club Members
will be gratefully received.
